Man arrested for ‘murdering’ his girlfriend in shop

2015-10-13 06:00

A 39-year-old man has been arrested for the alleged murder of his girlfriend.

Lieutenant Ian Bennett, Manenberg police spokesperson, says he was arrested after he allegedly accosted his girlfriend at a shop in Klipfontein Road.

It is understood that the 24-year-old woman entered the shop with two friends. Without warning the perpetrator attacked her in the shop. She tried to flee on foot.

“She tripped and fell; this is when he stabbed her eighteen times in her back,” says Bennett.

Bennett says the shop owner intervened, but it was too late as she died from her injuries on the scene.

A case of murder has been opened for investigation, with the suspect arrested charged with murder. He was scheduled to appear in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

Anyone with information regarding this incident can contact Manenberg police on 021 699 9400 or Crime Stop on 086 001 0111.
