Man arrested for shooting another on the street

The police have arrested a 32-year-old man after another man was shot and injured in Hout Bay over the weekend.

The incident occurred on Sunday at about 17:00.

Warrant officer Tanya Lesch, spokesperson of the Hout Bay police station, says the 24-year-old victim was standing outside his house in Petersen Street, Imizamo Yethu, when he noticed a stranger talking to his sister-in-law.

The victim approached them and the suspect drew a handgun.

He fired a shot up into the air and threatened the victim.

Lesch says the suspect fired two more shots in the victim’s direction and the victim was shot in his lower body. He was taken to Groote Schuur hospital.

A case of attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm was opened and a 32-year-old man was arrested.

The firearm was also handed in as evidence. The suspect will appear in the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court today.

. Meanwhile, the police confiscated another firearm after they received information on Sunday that a suspect had a handgun with him while he was drinking at a shebeen.

Lesch says when the police officers arrived they found the suspect in possession of a handgun which had the serial number filed off.

The suspect was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and will appear in the Wynberg Magistrates’s Court today.

. The police further made four drug-related arrests confiscated mandrax powder, wunga and two stops of dagga.

. Lesch adds the police made four arrests during a stop and search operation. The suspects are suspected of having had stolen goods with them
