Numerous complaints about the problematic lanes throughout Mitchell’s Plain has resulted in the commencement of a lane closure project.

The closure of 17 lanes in subcouncil 12 started on Wednesday last week.

Ward councillor Eddie Andrews was on site with residents while the Crete Street lane was closed.

“The community has reported a reduction in anti-social behaviour within the lanes, which confirms the positive impact the closure of the lanes has.

“A detailed survey will still be conducted to confirm the holistic impact for the affected communities. This would further motivate for an additional phase to be implemented,” he says.

Residents living next to a problematic lane are encouraged to consult with their ward councillor with the view to formally submit a request to close the lane.

Furthermore, residents who are part of the current pilot project and have not submitted completed documentation, are requested to do so to avoid further delays with regard to closure of the remaining lanes.V
