Scam promises job

2015-11-03 06:00

Residents are warned not to fall for a job-related scam involving a health facility in Westridge.

Residents of Westridge and the surrounding areas must be made aware of a con artist who is soliciting money from residents with the false promise of securing them employment at the Westridge clinic.

According to a statement of the City, the suspect has reportedly been requesting that residents pay R150 each into a specific bank account at Shoprite, which will supposedly facilitate a process whereby they get employed at the Westridge clinic.

Many residents who have paid the fee have been sent an SMS notification stating that they have been employed at the clinic.

The City became aware of the scam when residents who had paid the money visited the clinic under the impression that they had been employed by the City of Cape Town.

Thus far, it appears that residents from Nyanga, Gugulethu, Khayelitsha and Kuils River have been scammed.

None of the community members affected came from Mitchell’s Plain, where the clinic is situated.

If anyone is approached by someone recruiting for the Westridge clinic, the City advises that the victim should report it to the management of the clinic.

Residents should report any incidents involving con artists to the police, making sure to provide any additional identifying information that could lead to their capture.
