An awards ceremony was held last week to honour staff of the Sea Point City Improvement District (CID).

Among the staff members who were recognised for providing exceptional service at the ceremony at the New Kings Hotel, was Chumani Bangani, who was awarded Officer of the Year, and Wandile Hlathi, who was awarded runner-up.

Ward councillor Jacques Weber says the awards are a way to honour “people who, every day, make the ward a better place”.

“The one key element in keeping our area safe is every officer who walks the streets, dressed in blue,” he says.

Certificates of appreciation were presented to Hylton McCarthy and Hein Lewis who put their lives on the line daily as law enforcement officers paid for by the Sea Point CID.

Field worker Natalie Coetzee, who works to improve the lives of streetpeople in the area, also received acknowledgement
