See ‘beyond the water tap’

2015-05-12 06:00

A website is set to provide useful information that may help residents, pupils, students, educators and visitors on water and sanitation.

The City of Cape Town’s water and sanitation department has launched an improved site, loaded with interactive diagrams, video clips, posters and brochures, says Ernest Sonnenberg, mayoral committee member for utility services.

“For instance, residents will be able to access a detailed explanation about water tariffs and how we bill them for water usage, and how to apply for a water management device, or to be connected to the City’s water system,” he says.

The website has a strong educational focus aimed at increasing awareness about water and sanitation issues as well as explaining the department, Sonnenberg explains.

“Residents can learn about where their water comes from or what happens to their wastewater,” he says.

The website boasts useful information for those interested in water and the way in which the City manages it, Sonnenberg says.

“Apart from providing residents and businesses with information about tariffs and billing, visitors to the website can also access departmental contact details,” he says.

It also aims to encourage residents to participate in the programmes and initiatives in their areas, Sonnenberg says.
