Teens caught ditching firearm

2015-05-05 06:00

Two teenagers have been arrested for the illegal possession of firearms.

Manenberg police responded to a shooting in Heideveld on Thursday last week at 16:00, says police spokesperson Lieutenant Ian Bennett.

“When officers arrived they noticed suspicious youths walking away from them and as they walked they dropped a red coloured bag.

“The teens were cornered and searched and the red bag was then picked up which contained a 357 Magnum revolver with one live round,” he says.

The 18-year-old man and 16-year-old boy from Longkloff Circle were both arrested for illegal gun possession and ammunition.

They will be appearing in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court soon.

Anyone with information on illegal firearms and ammunition are urged to call the Manenberg police on 021 699 9400 or CrimeStop on 08600 10111.

Members of the community will be financially rewarded if the information leads to a successful conviction
