Members of Thornhill United Football Club have celebrated the 50th anniversary of the club.

They gathered at the Rylands Civic Centre on Sunday last week.

In his opening address, the CEO of the club, Nasser Hamdulay, said that it was refreshing to see so many familiar faces from the past and the present.

“It is still pleasing to see that we have grown from the humble beginnings of a one-team Thornhill club, to one that caters for soccer from the u.8 to senior level.

“We remember the pride at putting on the distinctive red and white, the Thornhill kit. We remember Johnson Road’s gravel patch and the Port Jackson bush. The entire community watching the team play was always a sight to behold.

“Local derbies and town rivalry were big in those days. Sunday afternoons at Johnson Road was the place to be.

“We can reminisce for hours about those glory days, and the wonderful journey the club has been on,” he said
