More than 500 volunteers packed 54 000 meals for almost 400 children of early childhood development centres in Cape Town as part of the Stop Hunger Now campaign.

The volunteers included employees from Garlandale High School, Goodwood College and Sun International properties GrandWest and the Table Bay Hotel, as well as their partners and suppliers.

Working in shifts throughout the day at GrandWest’s market hall, they packed enough meals to provide 380 children with three meals per day for a school year.

“Stop Hunger Now SA does tremendous work to alleviate the plight of South Africa’s hungry,” says Heidi Edson, Sun International’s group socio-economic development manager.

“We feel privileged to have been involved in this worthwhile initiative again this year. We thank all of our volunteers for being part of it and helping us to achieve our target.”
