Lansdowne and Rondebosch East residents can now monitor activity in their areas online.

This comes after the LanRoe Neighbourhood Watch officially launched its website at a meeting held at the Vera School on Thursday evening last week.

Residents will be able to stay up to date with activity in their neighbourhood, report crime and advertise their businesses on the site as it also offers a classifieds section.

LanRoe Neighbourhood Watch chairperson Ahmad Gangat urged residents to visit the site to ensure it was a sustainable site.

“This is a work in progress and we urge our residents to share the site and visit it as often as possible. This way we will all be up to date with events and activities in our area but we will also in that way ensure that this will benefit us in the long run,” Gangat said.

The site, which was developed by Watch member Samier Saban, has been up for just less than two months.

“Tell us what you want and what you don’t want. This is our site and we want it to work for everybody,” Gangat added.

The Watch also announced its plan to install signage to show that the area is patrolled by the Watch.

“For now we are planning to have 48 durable signs put up in the area. There are also future plans to have surveillance cameras put up in the area so we may be a proactive instead of a reactive community,” Gangat added.

The Watch was established last year after residents became “nervous” due to a spike in crime in the area.

“Since LanRoe started as a neighbourhood watch in sector 2 crime levels here have decreased,” he said.

Lansdowne police station commander Colonel Jan Alexander confirms sector 2 has proven the most successful with a decrease in crime.
