What a catch

Two Ocean View boys took the top spots at the Galjoen Competition hosted by the Great White Shark andamp; Surf Shop in Fish Hoek.

The galjoen season officially opened on Saturday 28 February, with Chad Delcarme and Alistair Farmer taking part in the competition on Saturday 7 March.

The participants could catch a galjoen anywhere around the South Peninsula coast and the fish would be judged according to size and weight.

Chad and Alistair headed to Cape Point with Chad’s father, Vincent Delcarme, of Ocean View. Chad was one of the prizewinners in the junior section and was awarded for the biggest and heaviest galjoen. Alistair’s galjoen was slighty lighter and smaller than Chad’s catch. Both of them caught three galjoens for the day. All the prizes were sponsored by the Great White Shark andamp; Surf Shop in Fish Hoek.

The pair also prevented a fatal breaching of a 1.5m dolphin on their way to Platboom in Cape Point. It was crying out for help and they pushed it back into the ocean. The dolphin was full of scratch marks. It took a while for the dolphin to swim back into the ocean
