South African rapper Rikhado Makhado, popularly known as Riky Rick, will join over 27 artists at this year’s Cape Town Nu World Festival over the Mandela Day weekend.

The accomplished writer, rapper and actor’s fusion of South African kwaito and hip-hop has made him a sought after producer and performer.

With a string of music award nominations behind his name, Riky Rick joins a dynamic line up including Simphiwe Dana, Kanda Bongo Man (DRC), Mokoomba (Zimbabwe), Dunkelbunt (Austria), Majozi, Paul Waxon, Elemotho (Namibia), Fantasma, Özlem Bulut (Turkey/Austria), Native Young, Tcheka (Cape Verde) and Derek Gripper, Thris andamp; The Blackfoot Phoenix (Boiler Room/NTS), Zuko Collective, Bateleur, Vukazithathe, Card On Spokes, Toby2shoes, Spoek vs. Spoko, Aero Manyelo and Moussa Diallo Trio (Mali/Denmark).

The festival at Cape Town City Hall on Friday 17 and Saturday 18 July will feature three different stages to cater to the diverse audience. A seated stage will be used for more intimate performances, with a main arena for larger acts, and a late night DJ stage playing beats from all over Africa and the world.

The festival will also host a number of TED-style talks and a programme of workshops and fringe events set to take place all over the city.V
