Traffic troubles

. The pedestrian pavements on Albertyn Road between Wherry Road and Main Road are way too narrow for safety! Especially when pushing a pram or holding a child’s hand! Margaret Dugmore, Palmer Road

. It is not only the number of cars piling up every morning and evening on Albertyn Road. The terrible noise they produce while waiting in the queue at the robot, (is) so loud you can’t even have a conversation at your balcony. Also the unacceptable pollution from petrol and diesel engines. Our windows are sticky and black as well as the white houses. (I) wonder (what) our lungs look like?

. Since when are trucks more important than people, Mr Herron? This is a very narrow residential road with very narrow pavements. It is not the place for massive 24-wheeler vehicles.

. There is a 3.5ton restriction on Albertyn Road, but the sign has just been turned around. A bit of enforcement on that road would go a long way.

. Prohibit heavy trucks from using Albertyn Road? What is the alternative, Uxbridge Road? No thanks, Sandvlei community already has sufficient problems, don’t need Muizenberg’s diverted to us.

. People do not stop at the level crossing’s stop streets in Albertyn Road going in both directions. In fact they speed across the railway lines. The stop streets further down Albertyn Road are completely ignored especially if the booms were down. There are schoolchildren, pedestrians and animals at risk. Someone is going to die.

. The trucks over 4 tons are the worst culprits for speeding. They disregard all stop streets hence being able to reach speeds (of) over 40km/h.

. Trucks and cars (are) speeding, not stopping at stop streets is the norm. This endangers pedestrians’ lives – including many schoolchildren walking to and from False Bay station. Royal and Clevedon roads have become rat runs, including for heavy vehicles. An easy solution is to introduce traffic calming chicanes, which the residents are happy to plant and maintain, adding some greenery. Use barriers to stop trucks on Albertyn. Something has to happen!

. Three-way stop signs (are) urgently needed at (the) Uxbridge and Orient Road railway line crossing intersection. (It’s) impossible to enter Uxbridge Road from Orient Road ’cause no one respects stop signs. Traffic cop was warning transgressors after murder in area but no improvement. Beth Kingma, Orient Road

Dogs on beaches

. Why do dog owners think that their rights supersede those of people who don’t own dogs? I for one am tired of being accosted by unleashed dogs on the beach. If I wanted to play with a dog I would get my own
