A first for Wynberg multisport club

2017-09-05 06:01

MSA Multisport will be hosting its inaugural race on Sunday 24 September.

According to the club’s Ghayat Petersen, it will be a course to perform a personal best on, with an incentive of R2000 to the first Western Province men’s runner under 28min and first Western Province woman under 33min.

The race will include a 10km run which will start at 07:00, a 10km walk which will start at 07:10, as well as a fun run at 07:20.

There will be a free secure children’s drop-off area, entertainment, music, vendors and lunch will be on sale.

MSA Multisport was established in 2015 with MSA Consultants as the title sponsor.

The multisport club is based at William Herbert sports field in Rosmead Avenue, Wynberg, and caters for multidisciplinary codes such as road running, race walking, trail running, cycling and triathlon. The club has been affiliated to Western Province Athletics since its inception.

Training takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 18:00 and is headed by Western Province coach Frans Pienaar.

The club aims to, above promoting a healthy lifestyle, offer coaching, competitive and social opportunities in the different sporting codes and promote the club within, but not limited to, the community of Wynberg.

“Many social factors prevent excellent, natural athletes from showcasing their abilities as they are not given an opportunity, or cannot afford necessities in running, such as running shoes, running gear, etc. At MSA we strive to provide a platform for these underprivileged athletes. They are sponsored with running gear, running shoes and transport to and from races and their race entries are paid. We are working hard to instil a sense of belonging, pride and dignity in these athletes.

“Our future goal is to create a junior academy, which will be free of charge to any junior wanting to run or compete or showcase his abilities. This will also provide a safe and positive outlet for our youth, keeping them away from the many bad influences out there,” says Petersen.
