It almost sounds like the story of two people looking for love on the internet, because when Ben Kynman (21) from the Island of Jersey in the English Channel was looking for an overseas cricket club to play for during the English winter, Ottoman Cricket Club was looking for an overseas player to bolster their bowling line-up.

“And that is how we came together,” says Kynman.

He plays for Bromley Cricket Club in the Kent Division 1, which is the highest standard before country cricket.

“Because it is winter in England now, we can only train indoors so I wanted to play somewhere where it was summer to be better prepared for the English season. At the same time Ottoman was looking for a bowler. I look forward to bowling outside and bowl at full pace here because in England training is indoors at the moment. Playing in this heat and these conditions will do a lot for my fitness and will be good for my game back home.

“The standard here is very high and I would love to make a huge contribution to the team. I was welcomed with open arms and the spirit at the club and between the players is great,” says Kynman.

“I have a lot to learn and I will take on as much as I can so when I go back home I can have a successful season.”
Rushdi Jappie, captain of Ottoman, says they are really happy to have Kynman in their bowling line-up.

“He brings a lot of energy and has already added a lot to the spirit of the team. Someone who can bowl around 130km/h at club level is a great asset for us. Hopefully he can start well and gain momentum trough the season,” says Jappie.
