LETTER: A schlep that’s worth it

2017-01-31 06:02

Yes, it is a huge schlep to no longer use the hose in our garden. Carrying buckets to and fro takes time and energy.

All to sustain our many plants, a veggie patch and our small ailing lawn. I’ve also heard many people say that “but we pay for our water”.

However, even those folks who do not pay for water should be saving it, since I’ve also seen this side of the coin.

Folks, the bigger picture is that we must all work together to save water.

My tips:

. Use a tub in the shower to catch all that water that would otherwise just flow down the drain.

. When you shower, wet your skin, then close the tap while you lather and scrub the skin clean (it’s totally unnecessary to have water running at this stage). Then run the water again to rinse the soap off your body. You’ll be amazed at how much less water you use.

. Link your washing machine outlet pipe onto the tub to catch this water for later use.

This is the water we use on our plants, trees and lawn ... every little bit helps.
