Ambassadors in Sport scored thrice in the first half which laid the foundation to their 3-1 victory against Exceptional Ladies from Mitchell’s Plain LFA in a Safa Cape Town Coca-Cola Cup encounter at the Strandfontein sports complex on Sunday.

The match in the round of 32 had a bit of everything and though the Exceptional Ladies did put up a good fight, they fell short in the end. Ambassadors took the game to their opponents and by the half-time whistle held a comfortable 3-0 cushion.

The Cape District LFA side opened their account through Legendre Dyers in the 19th minute and added their second goal five minutes later when Melissa Jantjies found the back of the net.

The Kromboom-based side was then in full flight and surged 3-0 ahead when their livewire player, Washeemah Scott, scored from close range.

Exceptional Ladies scored a 61st minute consolation goal through the efforts of Nomthdtwelell Muphelle.

Ambassadors will play Burnley of Metropolitan LFA in the round of 16 at William Herbert sports complex in Wynberg on Sunday 21 August. Thanks to a 78th minute strike through Megan Scharneck, Burnley eliminated FC Tafelzucht (Mitchell’s Plain LFA) 1-0 from the race.

While in another enterprising game RV United of Mandela Park LFA ousted Manenberg Ladies 2-0 with Babalwa Mngxunya and Chantel Khana scoring a goal apiece in the second stanza.

The 11 winners from Sunday’s games, including Hout Bay United will be joined by the four winners from Sunday’s four outstanding matches scheduled for NY49 in Guguletu.
