Manenberg police seized 100 10mm rounds of ammunition, designed to be used in a Tokarev pistol, in the area on Tuesday.

According to Manenberg police spokesperson Captain Ian Bennett, officers of their crime prevention unit, under the command of Captain Jumminy Christians, were deployed in the policing precinct to combat gang activity and reduce gang violence.

They received information on ammunition that was buried in the backyard of an address in Thames Walk.

“The officers knew their source was reliable, so they needed to excavate the yard. No-one was arrested and the ammunition was handed in as evidence and will be sent for ballistic testing,” says Bennett.

Meanwhile, Manenberg Police Station’s commander, Brigadier Enolium Joseph, has expressed his gratitude to the officers He also wants to encourage the public to report incidents that lead to criminal behaviour. Any information that leads to the successful recovery of any firearm or ammunition will be financially rewarded.

Anyone with information on illegal firearms and ammunition can call Manenberg police on 021 699 9400 or Crime Stop on 0860 010 111.
