With multiple sport codes producing star athletes, the Beacon School for Learners with Special Education Needs have also produced track and field stars who recently represented the school and the Western Cape at a national competition.

The school produced four qualifying athletes, with three of them taking home gold and silver medals in their events.

Shadley Henderson, Cheyenne Mouton, Darren Albertyn and Sadé Moos all qualified to participate in the South African Sports Association Intellectually Impaired Games where they competed against the best of the best in the country and came home victorious.

Henderson won gold in discus, Albertyn won gold and silver in the 100m and 200m events, Sadé Moos won gold in the long jump and Cheyenne Mouton placed fourth overall in the 400m event.

Gasant Galant, the athletics and sports coach, says the athletes are doing well in the circumstances and the school is in desperate need of equipment and practise space.
