Bellville was unable to complete its league season unbeaten.

The team was beaten 3-2 by Botha­sig to finish the season with 27 wins from 28 games played.

Excellent pitching by Jared Ela­rio set up the win for Bothasig.

Elario threw six innings. He conceded two runs, walked through and struck a whopping 10 Bellville hitters.

He was replaced by Keenan Clarke who pitched three innings. Clarke struck out two and walked five before he made way for Kyle Botha, who pitched the tenth inning.

Bellville was unable to secure a hit in this game.

Botha (3/3) and Darren Boltman (2/5) were Bothasig’s top hitters. Bertus Mostert threw well for his team (7 inn, 7 hits, 1 walk and 5 strike outs).

Giants trump YankeesIn another 10-innings game, Westridge Yankees were beaten 3-1 by Maitland Giants.

Three hits by the Giants in the top of the tenth inning secured them the victory.

The Giants used three pitchers who combined to allow Yankees four scattered hits. Ryan Samie (2/4) was the best hitter for the Giants.

Crusaders save best for lastCrusaders beat VOB 8-3 in their last league game of the season.

Crusaders started with Sergio Thompson on the mound. He conceded two runs in six innings. Jarrod Williams replaced him and conceded a run in three innings.

Two former Crusaders players, Michael Scritten and Grant Robertson, shared the pitching duties for VOB.

Altino Elliott (2/4) did well for VOB and Brent Robertson (2/5) and Chris Jacobs did well for Crusaders. VOB made a total of 10 errors.

In other action over the weekend, Athlone beat Durbanville 11-7 in Durbanville.

The Western Province Baseball Association playoffs will be taking place this weekend, when the major league teams will square off in a best-out-of-three contest on Saturday (at 12:30 and 15:30) and Sunday (at 12:30). The match winners will advance to the finals, which will take place next weekend.
