Lentegeur High School learners recently participated in the Junior Achievement (JA) South Africa mini-enterprise programme, learning basic skills needed to start sustainable businesses.

The impact of the programme on the learners and school was felt when they volunteered to host a school market day, which they developed in just two days.

The learners made more than R1000 in profit that was reinvested as start-up capital for their JA South Africa programme businesses.

The learners also decided to nominate their school as their company’s corporate social responsibility beneficiary, which involved cleaning up the schoolgrounds and planting a tree.

“This is a prime example of the positive nature of skills transfer programmes. Not only were invaluable skills learned to run a sustainable business, but the learners also gained equally important life skills, seeing them giving back to their school and community,” says deputy principal Peter Ziegler.
