A case involving a teen who allegedly raped his own sister in Heideveld has shocked local police.

According to a report by Manenberg Police Station, a teenager living in Katrina Court in Heideveld is accused of raping his 14-year-old sister.

Police spokesperson, Captain Ian Bennet, says they were shocked to learn that the family did not want to proceed with criminal charges.

He says while the girl is receiving counselling, police have cautioned the family against “smearing the case closed”.

“The problem with this case is that at the same flat in that court there is also a case of an uncle abusing his niece and while the rape was reported and the 14-year-old girl who was raped recently is receiving counselling, the family does not want to push ahead with criminal charges and are smearing the case closed.”

He says the situation is difficult for police as they believe the alleged rapist should be arrested and have his day in court.

“We are calling on the community to come forward and firstly report these cases immediately and see it through. Dropping the charges will only mean this is going to carry on and the effects for this girl are serious. Girls who find themselves in these situations often spiral out of control,” he says.

However, Bennet, says police are continuing with their investigation into the rape case.
