Buddies make music together

2017-06-20 06:01

Two musician friends from the Cape Flats are combining their talents and launching a new single at the end of the month.

Edwin Martin, also known as Mr Music, is excited about his new project working with Sama nominee Byron Clarke. “I took a bit of a break but there has always been ideas going through my head and now I am ready to launch my new single called ‘Lavi Wam’. With its Xhosa lyrics the song is a combination of house and smooth jazz fusion.”

Martin says the excitement for him on this project was working with Clarke.

“Byron brought a lot to the table for this project and after many years of friendship we were glad to get into the studio and work on the song.

“We’ve also been busy with filming a documentary about my career, but we’re giving the public a chance to catch us in action when we host our launch on Friday 30 June.”

Martin, who is from Belhar, adds that they also want to use the single to motivate youth to follow their dreams to be rolemodels in their communities.

“We want to show young people that it is not about where you come from but where you are going in life,” he says.

“Byron is from Elsies River and people always have this negative perception of these areas but we want to show the world that we have positive dreams.

“Both of us have been in the entertainment industry for about 20 years and we’ve already achieved quite a lot with being playlisted on local radio and Byron was nominated for a Sama.

“We want to show other young people that hard work and dedication can make a difference in your life.”

The launch will be held at the Inside Lounge Sports Bar at Eden on the Bay in Tableview at 18:30.

The pair will be backed by Signature SA. Other acts on the evening include Eastbound, ELYK hip-hop artist and Rick J May.

There is limited seating so booking is advised.
