Burglars knock, then steal TVs

2017-09-19 06:00

Mitchell’s Plain police are urging residents to remain alert following a recent spate of house break-ins in Morgenster and Westridge.

According to witness reports, it is alleged that four neatly dressed men have been seen around the area.

“The suspects knock on the victim’s doors to determine if people are home. They then break into the houses with crowbars. In many instances safety gates are forcefully removed before the thieves make off with flat-screen televisions,” says police spokesperson Captain Ian Williams.

“The group is believed to be making use of different vehicles. In one report the thieves were carrying clipboards as if they were doing surveys.”

In Westridge there have been reports of three men in a white Volkswagen Polo.

They are allegedly armed.

“If anyone should see these men, we advise them to immediately contact the police station,” says Williams.

Police offer the following tips:

. Join a local community structure like the neighbourhood watch.

. Report all suspicious people or activities to police.

. Build good neighbour relations so that you can contact each other in any emergency.

. Ensure that safety gates are properly installed.

. Install cameras and alarms where possible.

V To report crime call CrimeStop on 08600 10111 or your nearest police station.
