Police in Woodstock are waging a war against crime in the area.

On Wednesday the Woodstock crime prevention unit were busy with an intelligence-driven operation at about 17:15.

The officers executed a search warrant at a house in Station Road. After their search they recovered a hand grenade and four live rounds of ammunition hidden inside a brick wall at the back of the premises.

They arrested a 41-year-old woman.

Sergeant Hilton Malila, spokesperson of the police station, says the search also uncovered 1188 mandrax tablets that were hidden underneath brick paving in the backyard.

“The estimated street value of the drugs is about R65 000.

“We arrested the woman who was alone inside the house at the time police conducted the search.

“The suspect currently in police custody is facing charges of illegal possession of explosives, possession of ammunition, dealing and possession of drugs.”

He adds that the investigation is still going on and more arrests are imminent.
