Dagga’s medicinal use has been proven effective

2017-08-15 06:02

While I have sympathy for them after reading of their family’s trauma with recreational dagga, the writer from Kirstenhof has made the classic error of lumping medicinal cannabis with recreational cannabis (“Dagga stokes arrogance”, People’s Post, 8 August).

There are many peer-reviewed journal papers showing how medicinal cannabis products have shown effective treatment of disease – cancer included.

Encouraging a blanket ban on cannabis does a great disservice to people and to the medical teams that use it.

The Dagga Couple should be commended for their brave stance against those who keep us stuck to the 1960s ban on anything plant-based.

Maybe they should consider taking issue with alcohol and tobacco products as they are far more destructive addictive products.
