Designer sale for De Waal’s play area

2016-02-02 06:00

In an effort to improve the facilities at De Waal Park, the Friends of De Waal Park will be hosting a “designer duds” sale.

On Saturday, De Waal Park will be hosting the sale in aid of raising funds to uplift the children and dogs’ play area.

The sale takes place from 09:00 to 14:00 in the park.

Regular dog walkers have started a fundraising campaign, in which the proceeds from the sale will go to the improvement of the popular park, a meeting place for many dogs, their owners, children, picnickers, runners, bird watchers or anyone simply looking for some time out.

A few years ago, the Friends of De Waal Park organised a CD and DVD sale, which raised R25 000 in one morning, explains David Spence of the Friends.

The organisation is hoping to top that amount with this event.

Some high-end gems will be up for sale. One of the items would normally retail for about R15 000, says Spence. The hope is that they will far exceed the previous sale’s revenue.

The organisation raises about R80 000 a year, which is ploughed back into the care and upgrading of the park, Spence says.

However, after upgrading some more expensive items, the Friends are low on funds.

All proceeds will be put towards upgrading of children’s play area, which will include the installation of a rubber surface and play equipment. Work will also be carried out on the park’s fountain.V Donations of good quality clothing can be made at the Remax offices in Kloof Street or by contacting Spence on 083 357 7381.
