With its rich history of fishing and natural beauty, Kalk Bay has become a recreational hub for both locals and visitors.

But in their enjoyment of the village, Kalk Bay has become littered with plastic, glass, tin and all sorts of pollutants. This is not only unsightly but harmful to False Bay wildlife.

Now a group of diving enthusiasts have teamed up to reverse the damage to Kalk Bay’s natural environment.

All scuba diving and snorkelling communities of Cape Town were being called to participate in a harbour clean up in Kalk Bay Harbour on Saturday 4 June.

Although for a very serious cause, the event held fun for all, with R5000 worth of prizes won on the day.

The amount of trash each person collected was weighed and the prizes were given out according to the kilograms collected. There were also be 12 six-packs of beer hidden in the harbour for the divers – finders keepers

It is hoped the clean up will become an annual event.
