LETTER: Don’t do nothing – explore creatively

2015-11-24 06:00

Thank you for highlighting the need for a better, more integrated medical facility for the residents of Ocean View and Masiphumelele (People’s Post, 17 November).

People living there have long been denied the basic Constitutional rights of adequate healthcare and police services. To have to travel to False Bay Hospital to wait in long queues is totally unacceptable, especially with chronic debilitating conditions.

Emergency services are also stretched and delayed, which can result in further complications or unnecessary loss of life.

Sonwabile, the entertainment area at the entrance of Masiphumelele, has never functioned properly. I don’t know who owns it and whether the site is big enough, but if a multistorey medical facility was to be erected there, it would be very accessible to the people of both Ocean View and Masiphumelele, being right next to the taxi rank.

The present clinic building in Masiphumelele could then be converted into a police station: Again, a very strategic position.

The fact that space is limited should not serve as an excuse to do nothing, but as a stimulus to explore creative options. The people of Ocean View and Masiphumelele need these basic services as soon as humanly possible.

How much food do you need to concentrate?

We have been taught that we need three meals a day in order to make it through the day and while most of us indulge in more than our fair share there is a large portion of South Africans who are living off barely enough to sustain them.
