An endeavour to “take back” Fish Hoek’s streets has seen local safety and security workers hitting the beat.

Councillors Felicity Purchase and Aimee Kuhl – along with improvement district, Metro and police officers – and local neighbourhood watch members held an operation on Main Road on Friday 3 March.

The patrol is a response to complaints about the behaviour of patrons at local establishments, says Purchase, and is a means to observe and document activities that need further action.

“When we find undesirable or suspicious behaviour, police take the fingerprints of any suspect and take appropriate action where needed,” Purchase says.

During the patrol, issues such as antisocial behaviour, drug activity and street people were noted. The group also visited licenced establishments and issued a noise nuisance warning, Purchase adds.

The patrol was followed up with a roadblock and heavy police and Metro police presence.

The patrols are planned to happen monthly.
