Father, son robbed in shop

Steenberg police are requesting help from the community in investigating a robbery after a father and son were robbed of R70 000 in their shop last Wednesday.

Steenberg police spokesperson Warrant Officer John Bartlett says the 32-year-old son was sitting in his car in front of his shop in 7th Avenue, Retreat at about 18:00.

“He was approached by seven men; two of them had firearms. They forced the son and his father into the shop and ordered them to show them where the money was. Before the son could show them, two of the robbers jumped over the counter and took cash amounting to R70 000 and a Nokia cellphone to the value of R200,” he says.

Bartlett says no shots were fired and no-one was injured.

“The robbers fled the scene in a white VW Polo with an unknown registration number in an unknown direction.

“Steenberg police have opened a case of business robbery. Anyone with information is requested to contact Steenberg police on 021 702 9000.”

In a separate incident at about 21:10 the same day, a 43-year-old man died on his way home.

Bartlett says Neil Domonique Delcarmie of Dover Road, Muizenberg was driving home in his black Opel Corsa on Prince George Drive.

“When he stopped at the traffic lights on the corner of Joe Marks Boulevard and Prince George Drive, Lavender Hill he passed away behind the wheel of his car. A passerby from Lavender Hill flagged down a passing police vehicle and the ambulance was summoned. He was declared dead on the scene.

“At this stage it is unknown what the cause of death is.”
