Police are seeking five people in connection with a robbery which took place at a shop on the corner of Belgravia and Repulse roads in Lincoln Estate last weekend.

According Athlone police spokesperson Sergeant Zita Norman five unknown men entered the shop. Three had firearms and took R11 500 in cash and cigarettes to the value of R50 000.

“The employees were locked up in the storeroom at the back of the shop and later managed to get free once the robbers were gone. Two cellphones were also taken in the process. No shots were fired and no injuries sustained,” says Norman.

Despite no-one being arrested, Norman adds that video footage has been viewed.

“Colonel Mark Adonis is requesting anyone with information regarding this matter to come forward. Adonis is also engaging with neighbourhood watches to be vigilant whilst patrolling in their respective areas. Street and court committees, we appeal to you to be actively involved in the continuous fight against crime,” says Norman.

Adonis is further appealing to the broader community to get involved in the reward system.

“This system allows any adult member of the community to become proactively involved in the prevention of crime. Crime and criminals can be reported and a reward could be received by the reporter.”

Anyone with information on crime can call the police at Crime Stop on 0860 010 111. All information will be treated as highly confidential.
