There’s lots of harmony happening in Trafalgar Park in Woodstock on Sunday when the first Woodstock Live Heritage Picnic takes place.

In their launch year the picnic is focused on the musical heritage of District Six and Woodstock with traditional brass band music as its core offering.

Starting at 13:00 this will be a family picnic day for young and old showcasing current performers for the minstrel groups based in the area and showcase the sounds that are a core part of the Woodstock community.

Noting that many members have moved from the area, this heritage picnic aims to reunite old and new to experience a Woodstock tradition that the organisers aim to celebrate and actively support as part of the Woodstock Live umbrella.

Performers for the day include the D6 Hanover Minstrels, Fabulous Woodstock Starlites, Young Woodstock Starlites and the Ivusa Minstrels.

There will also be collaborations featuring Lee Thompson and Kesivan Naidoo, Camillo Lombard and Donvino Prins of Top Dog as well as Bongani Sotshononda and his marimba ensemble.

Refreshment stalls will also be available at the venue.
