Jail for serial killer

2016-06-14 06:00

The Century City serial killer has been given seven life sentences after pleading guilty.

Khangayi Sedumedi was sentenced in the Western Cape High Court on Thursday 9 June. He was given 40 years imprisonment in additional to the seven life sentences. He was arrested in January last year after the body of a woman, who had been raped and murdered, was found in the bushes near Acre Road.

A trusted source revealed to People’s Post in 2014 (“Grim find at station”, 28 October 2014) that police and paramedics had discovered the grisly remains of five women across the Transnet-owned property around the Century City train station. The bodies were severely decomposed, making it difficult to identify the victims and the circumstances around their deaths. The bodies were of black women aged between 20 and 32.

The 32-year-old resident of Guguglethu attacked seven women over the course of four years.

Sedumedi asked women for their contact details, saying he had job opportunities for them. He would then lure them to isolated areas by claiming he had arranged for them to be interviewed for a job. He kidnapped, robbed and raped his victims – one of which was a 15-year-old girl. In four cases, he murdered the victims.

He was linked to 23 charges, of which he pleaded guilty to 21 charges.
