The case of the 18-month old Jeremiah Joshua-Ruiters from Factreton who was allegedly murdered, has been postponed to Wednesday 12 July for judicare reasons.

The legal representative of the two suspects, Thanaa Abrahams told the court she could no longer represent them.

The boy’s stepfather (26) is charged with rape and murder while the boy’s 30-year-old mother is charged with child neglect and murder.

The two appeared in the Cape Town Magistrate's Court today (Wednesday 5 July) for a bail application.

Unlike their previous appearance, the mother was calm during the proceedings and avoided eye contact with her co-accused who looked nervous and tried to speak to Abrahams.

Magistrate Joe Magele said the mother would remain in the hospital section of the prison until next Wednesday.

Family members of the mother says they do not understand why she has to remain in custody for so long because she is pregnant and “undoubtedly innocent”.
