A Mitchell’s Plain man is one of 14 hairstylists from around the country competing in a TV reality show.

The nationwide HairXperts Masters Challenge competition by Sofn’free started last year. Nearly 3000 stylists entered the preliminary stages around the country.

The 14 finalists, including Yasseen Galant from Mitchell’s Plain, will endure seven weeks of intense challenges in a TV show which will air every Tuesday for the next 7 weeks, with the first show having started on 8 March on SABC1 at 21:00.

Each stylist will be put through challenges to test their creativity and competence in creating edgy styles which involve analysing, treating and styling the full spectrum of black hair, from natural to relaxed hair.

“This competition will see the cream of the countries’ stylists battling it out for the title. We will be testing the stylists’ skill set and ability to cope under pressure. The challenges set are no different to the type of situations they will encounter with their clients in their own salons,” says Mimmi Biggar, technical training manager of Sofn’free Hair and Beauty Academy.
