The BOS Cape Crown, a 3A Surfing South Africa Junior Surf Competition, was held in perfect conditions over the weekend at Long Beach in Kommetjie.

Spectators enjoyed an exciting display of surfing from South Africa’s top junior surfers who had come from as far as Richards Bay to compete in the Cape Town event.

In the end local knowledge of the shifting Long Beach break helped quite a number of young local surfers take the Cape Crown in their divisions. The talented Alex Townsend from Kommetjie won the u.12 division and was stoked with his first PST win. Up-and-coming surfer, Summer Sutton from Kommetjie, was in top form winning the girls u.14 title with some impressive power turns. Manoa Robb, also from Kommetjie, won the boys u.14 division.

In an extremely tight and exciting u.16 boys final, Max Elkington (the current SA Champion), took the win over fellow Kommetjie surfer Eli Beukes. Adin Masencamp from the Strand landed an impressive aerial in the dying minutes of the u.18 boys final to beat a strong contender in another Kommetjie local, Ford van Jaarsveldt.

The inaugural event was a great success thanks to support from the Kommetjie surfing community and the sponsors.
The organisers are hoping that this becomes an annual event on the South African Junior Surf calendar with young surfers striving to take the Cape Crown.
