A man is believed to have fallen from a Golden Arrow Bus on Jakes Gerwel Drive near Athlone on Monday last week.

The Lost City bus was heading in the direction of Mitchell’s Plain when the back left window of the bus reportedly came loose causing the man to fall from the bus.

One report says the man was seated while another claims the man was hanging out of the window and fell when the bus pulled away at a green robot.

Golden Arrow Bus Services spokesperson

Bronwen Dyke confirmed the incident, but dismissed social media reports.

“We can confirm that the incident occurred at 17:35 on the corner of Klipfontein Road and Jakes Gerwel Drive. The incident occurred as a result of a physical altercation that ensued between two passengers,” says Dyke.

She explains the altercation resulted in one of the passengers dislodging the back right window during their scuffle.

The man then fell out of the bus as a result of this.

“He sustained back injuries and indicated that he would consult his own doctor. The bus was not overcrowded and incidents of physical altercations have previously occurred on buses,” Dyke says.

“The bus is operated by one driver which makes it difficult to immediately intervene in cases of physical scuffles between passengers.”
