A 40-year-old man was murdered in Hanover Park this morning (Monday 27 February).

Philippi police spokesperson, Captain Lance Goliath, says officers were called to Howick Court at 10:30 where a man who was shot in the back was found dead.

He says five empty cartridges were found on the scene and paramedics declared the man dead.

At this stage, Goliath says it is unknown what led to the shooting and whether or not the incident is gang-related.

Acting station commander, Lieutenant Colonel Desmond Laing, condemned the killing and is calling on anyone with information to come forward.

Anybody with information is asked to call Warrant Officer Ronald Koopman on  021 690 1517 or 073 171 6154.
