Man shot in his living room

2017-05-30 06:00

Police officers of the crime prevention unit of Steenberg attended to a shooting in St Christopher Avenue, Lavender Hill last Wednesday at about 17:20.

Steenberg police spokesperson Warrant Officer John Bartlett says on their arrival at the scene the community pointed to a house where someone had been shot.

“The members found the victim lying on the floor in the living room with one gunshot wound to the left leg. The victim was conscious but did not say anything.

“The 29-year-old victim was taken to Victoria Hospital by ambulance for medical treatment. Four 9mm cartridges were handed to the police on the scene. Police have opened a case of attempted murder and the investigation continues. No arrests have been made.”

. In an unrelated statement, Bartlett says sporadic shooting incidents are occurring, especially in Lavender Hill. He says that during such shootings members of the public, and especially children, are once again reminded not to rush to the crime scene as the shooting may continue while they are at or on the way to the crime scene. The community should also not tamper with a crime scene, including not picking up bullets or fragments, as this may prevent successfully prosecution.

V Anyone with information about the shooting are requested to call Steenberg police on 021 702 9000 or Crime Stop on 0860 010 111.
