The City of Cape Town’s stabilisation unit arrested a 31-year-old man for having an unlicenced firearm last Thursday.

Manenberg police confirmed the arrest, which took place at 13:00 while the unit from the City’s Law Enforcement were busy conducting patrols in Manenberg Avenue.

They had received information about a man who looked suspicious and was walking with a firearm in and around Sabie Walk.

According to Lieutenant Ian Bennett, Manenberg police’s spokesperson, there were also incidents of stone throwing in the area at the time.

When they approached the man, the stabilisation unit noticed that he had a revolver in his hand.

“When he saw the Law Enforcement vehicle he started to run. The stability unit cornered him and as he was stopped he threw the firearm onto a roof of a house in Sabie Road,” says Bennett.

The man was arrested and a 45mm revolver loaded with six rounds was confiscated.
