Meet Krotoa in one-day-only musical

2016-11-29 06:00

Krotoa van Vandag – a story about identity, challenges and hope – will be staged at Sid. G. Rule Primary School in Grassy Park on Saturday at 13:00.

The musical theatre production is written by artist, poet and writer Janine van Rooy-Overmeyer, better known as Blaq Pearl.

It tells the story of Krotoa, the legendary Khoena woman, and illustrates her impact on life today.

It traces the journey of a girl growing up on the Cape Flats, searching for her identity, and depicts her various experiences, encounters and challenges through music, poetry, storytelling and dance.

With her grandmother’s guidance, the young woman connects with her roots through Krotoa’s life and sees how her story still resonates in the lives of women today.

The cast includes Blaq Pearl, Kay Smith, Charl van der Westhuizen, Lee-Anne Meyer and Lezhaune van Rooy. V Entry is free. Visit Blaq Pearl’s Facebook page for more information.
