More arrests proof of statistics

Two suspects have been arrested and one is still at large after an armed robbery at KFC in Gabriel Road, Plumstead.

This incident, which happened on Tuesday 6 August at about 20:15, came after recent crime statistics show robberies like this have declined.

Diep River police spokesperson Warrant Officer Keith Chandler says two men entered the shop posing as customers when the store was empty.

“One suspect jumped over the counter and put a knife at the teller’s throat. The second suspect drew a firearm and held the rest of the staff up while the other suspect took money out of the till. Both suspects then fled the store in a white VW Polo,” he says.

Swift police action led to the arrest of the two men, both aged 21. Police also recovered the car that was used in the crime.

“No shots were fired. Nobody was injured in the incident. Forensics and detectives were summoned to the scene and are busy with the investigation,” adds Chandler.

The suspects have since appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court.
