Murders continue to haunt Manenberg

2017-09-26 06:00

Three men were murdered last weekend in separate gang shooting incidents.

For the period Friday 15 to Monday 18 September, three men – aged 16, 20 and 44 – were reported to have died after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds.

Manenberg police spokesperson, Captain Ian Bennett, says that the 44-year-old victim was sitting in a park in Cathedral Road on Saturday morning when he was shot in the back of his neck. No cartridges were found at the scene and while no arrests have been made, a case of murder has been opened for investigation.

In the next shooting incident on Sunday morning, a 16-year-old boy was killed, while a 23-year-old man sustained serious gunshot wounds.

“The two victims were sleeping in a car on Towerkop Road in Manenberg. It is unknown why or how the incident happened. Several shots were fired into the vehicle while they were asleep. The 16-year-old victim died in a hail of bullets; he was hit in his upper body and died instantly. The 23-year-old victim was taken to Groote Schuur Hospital with gunshot wounds to his abdomen,” says Bennett.

Bennett adds that no arrests have been made.

A 20-year-old man was killed in Lataba Road on Sunday night.

Bennett says the man was shot in the chest after shots were fired at him and his friend. He was taken to Heideveld Emergency Centre for medical treatment.

V Anyone with information regarding these shooting incidents is urged to contact Manenberg Police Station on 021 699 9400 or Crime Stop on 0860 010 111.
