The time has come to nominate your neighbourhood watch (NHW) or watch members for the second annual citywide awards ceremony.

The NHW Awards are held in conjunction with the City’s safety and security directorate and its partners, including the Department of Community Safety. Entries close on 11 November.

Hylton Mitchell, chairperson of the NHW Awards steering committee, says they received a total of 122 entries from NHWs all over the Peninsula last year. “In the end, six outstanding individuals and the NHW of the Year stood out above the rest,” he says.

“The winners were deservedly recognised for their contribution in going above and beyond the call of regular NHW duties, to be instrumental in their respective communities in the fight against increasing crime levels.” The event highlights the incredible volunteer work being done by the more than 19 000 local NHW members who often at great personal cost do this community service without favour or reward. Nominate your NHW or NHW member online in the following categories: The NHW Member of Year Award; the Above & Beyond Award; the Safe City Award; the NHW of the Year Award; the Innovation Award; the Partnership Working Award and the Community Cohesion Award.

People’s Post, TygerBurger and City Vision are the official media partners of the awards.

All nominations can be done and more information sourced at www.nhwawards.co.za.
