If you missed the first screening of Mitchell’s Plain the Movie, you have another opportunity on your doorstep.

The movie’s producer, Robin van Der Byl, says it was important to him to have a second screening in Mitchell’s Plain.

The screening will be held at the Shekinah Full Gospel Church in Beacon Valley on Saturday 20 August and it will be a red-carpet event.

“The first screening was a huge success and there were more people than I expected. It was just great to see, especially since we started with just an idea and no money,” says Van Der Byl.

He adds the reviews for the movie were mostly good.

“Some of the comments I have heard were that the message was clear and that is that change is possible. Mitchell’s Plain is representative of many other areas and it shows change can happen in other areas too if we take a stand,” he says.

Van der Byl confirms that a sequel or several sequels are on the cards.

“I spoke with the cast and told them I was not going to write the second movie, so some of the cast are writing. They need to write about their characters. The movie left a lot hanging and you wonder what happens next. I think most of the characters will have their own movies,” he says.

But Van Der Byl and his director, Andrew Bennett, have not been idle since the movie.

Their new venture, called The Plain Talks, is already in production and is set to air on CTV in August.

The show features segments on everyday success stories from people from Mitchell’s Plain. V For more information on the talk show visit The Plain Talks Facebook page. Tickets for the movie screening will be R30 and sold at the door.
