The Mitchell’s Plain Liquor Traders Association recently held their annual Christmas party where they treated about 150 orphans from local orphanages around Mitchell’s Plain.

The initiative was a joint venture between police’s Social Crime Prevention Unit and the association.

The event was held at the Westridge Gardens on Thursday last week and saw fun and games to keep the children entertained.

This is the eighth annual event.

Theory Schrickker, secretary of the association says they will continue to host the event.

“We need to give back to the community. We chose the orphans because there are a lot of them and to provide meals for one day helps the orphanages a lot,” she says, adding that they hope to continue forever.

The children enjoyed fun in the sun with a pool, games, soccer and entertainment from Barney, and live musicians.

The games were also facilitated by Making an impact through sport (Mits).

The event ended with lunch and gifts for all the children.
