Forty three people have been treated after inhaling chlorine gas at the City Parks property in Fritz Sonnenberg Road, Green Point.

Emergency services responded to reports of a gas leak at 08:30 this morning, where they found a chlorine gas cylinder had been leaking, says Cape Town Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson Theo Layne.
ER24 paramedics, along with various other services, arrived on the scene and found a large group of people had gathered outside one of the buildings, says ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring.
“Several patients were reported to have experienced difficulty in breathing. ER24 paramedics and Metro services set a triage area as to assess all of the patients on scene.  Forty three people were assessed on scene by paramedics while a hazardous materials team was sent into the building to assess the situation.”

Thirteen patients were transported to hospital and are stable, Layne says.
Fire and rescue services are still on scene and will remove the cylinder before anyone is allowed to enter the building, Layne says.
