For the first time since 1982, this year’s SACS Dramatic production will be Gilbert and Sullivan’s popular comic opera The Pirates of Penzance.

This frolicsome piece tells the story of a young man irregularly apprenticed to a rather inept band of pirates instead of to a pilot. Also involved in the plot is the fact that he was born on 29 February – causing trouble with his achieving 21 years; a “bevy of beautiful maidens”; some terrified policemen and a major-general.

All of this is wrapped up in some of Sullivan’s most attractive music and makes for a highly entertaining evening.

All the male parts and chorus roles will be played by SACS boys with girls drawn from Springfield, Sans Souci, Westerford and Rustenburg. The musical accompaniment is provided by the SACS High Concert Band.

The Pirates of Penzance will be performed today, tomorrow and on Thursday 17 March at 19:00 in SACS’s Hofmeyr Hall. V Tickets cost R40 or R20 for children. Email musicadmin@sacollege.org.za for booking or more information.
