While a pizza is always pleasant on the palate it can also play a vital role in the welfare of children at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital.

Last week the Children’s Hospital Trust received a R260 000 donation from proceeds of the Col’Cacchio pizza chain’s celebrity chef series.

The donation will be used to upgrade and expand the paediatric intensive care unit at the hospital.

At the handover Michael Terespolsky, managing director of the franchise, spoke about his joy at helping the hospital.

“We really enjoy doing this event, the celebrity chef series, which ran from September to the end of November last year,” he said. “A remarkable R260 000 was raised for the trust.”

“They have a big heart for the hospital, and their generous support has helped raise funds for numerous Trust priority projects over the years,” said Louise Driver, CEO of the Children’s Hospital Trust.

Col’Cacchio director Kinga Baranowska also commented that the celebrity chef series would not be possible without the support of the public, the celebrity chefs, sportsmen and sponsors involved: “We thank you for the role you’ve played in helping us raise this donation.”
